About James Huntley

James Huntley James Huntley is an artist that specializes in a variety of media, including traditional and digital. Working with mixed media, he has travelled the world and the US. His work is influenced by the places he has seen and people he has met along the way. A sense of longing (strongly referencing the Portugese idea of "fado") dominates the expression that comes through the work.

"Journeys can be a seductive process. A travel experience can quickly become an old friend that always beckons for more. A short road trip or a flight across oceans can encourage experimentation. Conversations with strangers can evolve into frank truths and the ability to reinvent. Old baggage can be left at the door. Inhibition can slide away and fear of the unknown can be embraced. The work on these pages are taken from imagination, memories, and observation of journeys both in the mind and the world. Working with mixed media and photography, pieces are layered with a variety of mediums as efforts become imbued with the bittersweet." -James Huntley

"...in crafting my life, I started by double majoring in fine arts and journalism at Indiana University (Bloomington). After applying my skills as a computer graphic illustrator and journalist for Gannett News Services and a Fortune 500 company, I left the United States for more than six years in Asia and a master's degree at the University of Illinois (Champaign-Urbana). While studying Chinese painting for three years in Taiwan, I stumbled upon teaching (or it stumbled upon me). Currently living as an artist/educator...this lifestyle, along with educational grants and opportunities, has allowed me time for extended travel to various locations around the world and in the United States as well as honing my authentic experience for professional and emotional growth."
